I am continually reminded of all the many people on depression medication. We have so much to be happy about today, who has time to be depressed? Today's article hopefully will help you understand how to deal with depression. There's no need to be depressed, and it can be dealt with naturally and permanently!

Combating Depression
In today's world, there are many who suffer from depression and other emotional disorders. I am continually astounded at the many individuals who are on depression medication. Recently an individual came home from two years of living in a South American country. He was amongst people who were in great poverty conditions. They had nothing, but these were happy, happy people. After his return, he was so distraught to find the amount of people who have everything in life, but are always depressed and on depression medication. When we have everything, why might we possibly have such a high rate of depression amongst our people?
First, we must understand our body is a system. If we feed our system properly and give it the proper nutrition, it will function properly. If our system is lacking vital nutrients, we experience unwanted disorders. Most individuals here in our country are greatly lacking in vital nutrients and that is one of the main factors in the cause of depression, though your doctor won't tell you that. You may ask about those in the South American countries then. They don't subsist on empty, processed foods. It's better to have none at all than to have refined foods that have no nutritional value, but just create chemical reactions!
So what are we lacking and how do we solve this problem?
- Eat lots of raw fruits and vegetables, and whole grains (cooked or sprouted). These contain not only the vital nutrients we need, but also the fiber for cleansing our systems.
- Drink lots of pure water daily. Our bodies are mostly water, and every body function relies on water. It must be water - not any other drink! Drink it and drink lots of it!
- Cut out most animal products and rely on mostly vegetable proteins. Remember, think of the cow that grazes on grass all day, and has occasional grains to produce his hundred pounds of flesh protein. Greens and grains do contain those vital nutrients that our bodies need for growth and repair.
Second, our bodies need exercise. Even if you don't feel like it - exercise daily for at least 30 minutes. A brisk walk is still the best exercise you can get and it doesn't cost anything but time and commitment. Especially if you start to become depressed, energizing your system will quickly remove the depression and you will feel totally different in no time. This is one of the best remedies for depression, and the investment is well worth the benefits!
Third, think positive thoughts. Take a piece of paper and list several things about you and your life such as: I am alive, I can walk, I can breathe, I can smile, I can laugh, [blank] loves me (even if it is the cat - and get a cat if necessary), I have [whatever comforts you], etc. Make the list long. Now, every time you think negatively, stop it, and read the things on your list. Repeat them over and over until they overtake your negative thoughts, and they will! Reading good uplifting books will also help you have positive thoughts and actions.
Fourth, commit to being happy because you want to be, because you have so much to be happy about! We all like to be around happy people, so be a happy person and look for opportunities to make others happy too!
I have seen people that have taken these principles and have had life changing experiences. Within a short time, they are off their depression medication and feeling energized without feeling depression symptoms at all. It is truly rewarding to know that the nutrition in foods is what is lacking and can be the best medicine ever!

Food for Thought:On The Go Foods

In this fast pace world, we are always on the go. That's why convenience foods are so convenient! But most convenience foods are also so unhealthy, being high in refined empty-nutritious carbs, and high in unhealthy fats, salt, preservatives, colors, fillers, etc.
There are many convenience foods that are nutritious. You can put some of these in an emergency bag in the car, so you are not tempted to stop for foods when you don't need to.
- A banana or apple is already prepackaged, ready to go at all times - some of the best!
- Raw nuts are great and can be bagged ahead of time so they are conveniently ready to go.
- Trail mixes (raw nuts and dried fruits) can even be put together yourself. Just mix the kinds of nuts and fruits together that you like and have them ready to go: almonds, pecans, pine nuts, pumpkin seeds, raisins, dried apricots, dried bananas, dried papaya, etc.
- Rice cakes, whole wheat crackers, popcorn (not micro-waved) are also some other quick to go healthy snacks.
There's no excuse for poor nutrition for the sake of convenience when there are some great convenient nutritious foods to eat!
